General
Whitford Burrows and Rhossili Bay are located on the western end of the
Gower peninsula, west of Swansea in South Wales.
Access & Parking
The Gower my be reached from the eastbound M4 via Swansea and the A4118 .
For Rhosilli, turn right on to the B4247 just beyond Knelston. Whitford
Burrows are located to the north and you should aim to get to Llanmadoc -
via the A411 / B4271 or alternatively by way of the B4295 from Gowerton.
Once at Llanmadoc, park and walk along a track leading in a NW direction
to the coast. Follow the path past 'Cwm Ivy Farm' downhill and just before
you reach the beach turn right in front of a wooded area and follow the
path which takes you past a cottage and parallel to the beach. After about
20 minutes walk, a path turns left down to the sea - reaching the beach by
way of the dunes.
22/7/99 Trip Report
"In my experience the only CO regular portion of beach on West Gower
was the northernmost portion of Whitford Sands, half a mile short of the
abandoned lighthouse at Whitford point. Rhossili Bay was always a bit
marginal, especially on good weekends. Incidentally both of these beaches
are exceptions to Phil Vallak's "turn left for nuddies" rule,
and my information is a few years old. The only other Gower beach I have
(second hand) knowledge of is Pwlldu Bay which is definitely used for
skinny dipping (of the discreet variety), but again is totally textiled
during good sunbathing weather. Cefn Cidn is the best local bet for sunny
days. ."
